Acquiring a business logo is one of the most important steps in setting up a new business.
A company logo is often times the “first impression” that potential customers or business partners will see.
Your business logo represents your company so it’s vital that you get one that accurately states who you are.
Here are 4 Tips to follow when looking for a new business logo.
Tip #1: The logo should fit the industry.
Look around and it’s easy to find businesses that clearly have the wrong logo for their industry. The most blatant ones are usually in finance and law.
A conservative business model should have a conservative logo. It should not use a cartoon character, funky fonts or wild colors. These are playful design elements and are best left for businesses like day care centers and the pet industry.
I know rules are meant to be broken, but would you trust a law firm that used a cartoon dog for their branding image?
Tip #2: Logo Colors
Your new logo should look good in black and white and as a gray scale as well as in color.
Most people don’t even consider this step but it’s really important.
There will be numerous times when you advertise that only a black and white logo will be a submission option.
To see how your new logo will look in black and white, print it out and photocopy it. If it doesn’t reproduce well either look for another one or see if a graphic designer can create a black and white version of that logo for you.
Tip #3: File Formats
Business logos are printed on many sizes of marketing materials; from pens to billboards. In order for a logo to work with every size needed, it will have to be in a vector format.
A vector format is an image made from points, lines and curves, which enables the logo to scale without loosing quality.

Tip #4: Ready Made Logos
Because the logos are already made you get it in a day or two and they only cost around $100.00.
The down side is that other companies can use the same logo. So I suggest if you’re serious about your business, you buy the exclusive rights to the logo or change design aspects to make it look unique.
